Brand Review: Tatcha
When I found out I was pregnant, there were many many emotions; excitement, anxiety, fear, etc. One thing I had not thought about was my skincare routine. I am a big fan of Botox and retinol, which are not allowed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Through out my pregnancy, I was lucky just to get my face washed everyday due to the exhaustion. However, once I had my son, I noticed my skin was hurting. So I decided to look into new options. That’s when I found Tatcha and their Japanese ritual!
One of the big pillars of the Japanese ritual is a double cleanse. Tatcha suggests doing a double cleanse in the morning and the evening. The morning ritual involves a foaming cleanser and then a light exfoilator. The evening ritual is an oil based cleanser (which is also a make-up remover) and the same exfoilator.
Rice Wash – This was the first foaming cleanser I tried and I loved it! My skin felt clean and not stripped at all. It is on my list to repurchase.
The Matcha Cleanse – This product just came out recently and is really nice. It is more of a gel (foaming) cleanser. It definitely cleans your skin leaving it slightly less moisturized than the Rice Wash, but depending on how oily my skin was – I wanted that.
Camellia Face Cleansing Oil – This is Tatcha’s oil cleanser. I liked it – my skin was clean and most of my make-up was removed. This cleanser is more viscous than other oil cleansers, which makes it a little easier to use. It’s not my favorite oil cleanser, but definitely still a good cleanser.
Rice Polish – this is probably Tatcha’s best product. It is a gentle exfoilator that follows your cleanser. I can not rate it high enough! There are 4 different styles of this cleanser: Classic, Gentle, Calming, and Deep. I have tried all and I like all of them. I feel like I have a little bit more redness with the Deep but my skin is smoother. I am currently using the calming but think I will go back to the Classic or Deep when I need to refill.
One of the other big pillars of the Japanese skincare is an essence. When I first heard this – I had no idea what to expect. Essence is a water like product that you press into your skin which seems a little odd if you have never used it. However, it is quite excellent for that glowy moisturized look. It is now a staple of my routine.
Essence Skincare Boosting Treatment Overall, I really like the Tatcha Essence. I have tried a couple others but they were more expensive and at best worked just as well as the Tatcha Essence. If you haven’t tried an essence in your skincare routine – I would highly encourage you to give it a try!
Overall, serums are not as emphasized in the Japanese skincare, which always surprises me. I have started reintroducing some serums into my routine, specifically a vitamin C serum.
Tatcha’s Water Cream is a cult favorite. I have tried it and don’t like it as much as Dewey Cream. I think the water cream is excellent for skin which is a bit oily and has more natural moisture. The Dewey cream is really great for my postpartum skin. I was having a lot of trouble with my skin feeling dry and dull but this cream really really helped give my skin a boost.
The other product which I love from Tatcha is the Kissou Lip Mask – it provided so much moisture for my very chapped lips. I had a problem during postpartum and breastfeeding with having very chapped lips and this product really helped keep my lips pretty moist.
Tatcha also provides some great specials – there is often 20% off specials and full size product gifts.
